South East Steel Limited provide a wide range of both domestic and commercial buildings. We can advise on both scenarios and can supply all the necessary drawings to be submitted with any needed planning applications. To assist you, we have put together some guidelines regarding planning permission. NOTE, for specific answers we strongly recommend speaking directly to your local council ___________________________________________ Do you need planning permission for a steel building? Please use our advice as a guide only. This is general information and each local authority varies in it’s approach. For a definitive answer we advise you to contact your local council directly. However in most cases the following applies: Planning permission is often needed in the following circumstances: The new building is more than 4 metres high (with a pitched roof). How do I go about making a planning application? Contact the planning department at your local authority and explain your request and the site details, if they advise you, make an application they will send you an application form or quite often they can be downloaded from your local authority's website. The details of local authorities and further planning advice can be found here In most cases they will require a scaled location map of the site, dimensions, ridge heights and materials to be used. We can provide all this for you. How long before I get Planning Permission Granted? Most local authorities take between 8 – 12 weeks from registering your application. During the processing of the application there will be a consultation period where the council inform interested parties such as your neighbours and the highways department. If you feel the new building will affect your neighbours we would advise consulting them prior to submitting the application. Obviously, not all applications are automatically granted. If you are having difficulty obtaining planning permission we have an in house planning specialist able to offer you professional advice. The complete online planning and building resource available from the Planning Portal is a useful resource for additional advice and can be seen here.
